Scottish Leather Group (SLG) is a leading UK manufacturer of sustainable leather, supplying high-quality products to a wide range of industries.
The sliding door at the entrance into Scottish Leather Group’s hide chill room was in worse for wear condition This damage meant that air was leaking into their controlled environment zone, posing significant risk to the integrity of the hides, which require chilled conditions to prevent decomposition and ensure preservation.
Furthermore, as a key access point, this entrance was often utilised by forklift drivers and other personnel. The sliding doors were manually operated and thus made quick and easy access challenging, leading to an increase in operational downtime.
After SLG identified this issue, CPA concluded that the most beneficial solution would be to replace the existing sliding door with an automatic, fast action one.
The fast action door would solve both issues that the sliding door created. Able to effectively seal the external environment from the controlled zone, the former threat to product integrity that the damage door produced was immediately minimised, allowing the chilled room to maintain its required temperature.
Additionally, as the fast action door is automatic, those utilising the entrance can pass through more freely and quickly, promoting productivity whilst still preventing the air from escaping.
“The installation of the new Auto-Figo sliding door has exceeded our expectations. Access to the hide chill room has improved significantly, particularly for forklift trucks and MEWPs, providing a safer, quicker, and more efficient route into the chiller unit while reducing operational delays. The automatic opening and closing system has greatly improved temperature control by minimising the amount of cold air lost and preventing warm air from entering the chill room. This has helped maintain consistent chilled conditions, reducing unnecessary temperature fluctuations and supporting the preservation of the hides. The installation was completed safely and efficiently in just one and a half days with no disruption to our operations. Overall, the new door has delivered significant improvements in safety, operational efficiency, and environmental control within the chiller unit.”
