Creating a Cooler, Cleaner Working Environment at Confab Engineering

Our Customer

Confab Engineering, part of the CPA Group, is a UK engineering and manufacturing company based in Uddingston. Operating from a 5,830 sq ft workshop, the team specialises in the design and production of high-quality steel fabrications.

Objectives

The Challenge

During renovation work at Confab Engineering’s new facility, it became evident that an effective ventilation solution was required to support the facility’s operations. Air circulation throughout the building needed to be improved to maintain good indoor air quality and create a more comfortable working environment for employees.

Additionally, the heat generated by welding and other activities required effective management to prevent it from accumulating within the facility and creating inconsistent temperatures across different areas of the building. These conditions had the potential to affect employee comfort and productivity, while also creating concerns regarding workplace safety, equipment performance, and long-term operational efficiency.

The Solution

Following a comprehensive assessment of the Confab Engineering facility, we designed and installed a hybrid ventilation solution to address the issues of poor airflow, heat build-up, and inconsistent temperatures throughout the workspace.

The system included Breezair units to supply clean, fresh air into the building, alongside EcoPower extraction fans to remove excess heat and stagnant, contaminated air from the facility. HVLS fans were also installed to evenly circulate airflow throughout the space, helping to eliminate hot spots and maintain more consistent temperatures across all working areas.

The installation was completed in conjunction with the facility’s roof renovation, providing a more efficient and cost-effective solution by reducing the need for additional scaffolding, access equipment, and repeat health and safety procedures.

The Result

Following the installation of the hybrid ventilation system, post-installation monitoring demonstrated a more stable indoor environment compared with external conditions. The combination of Breezair evaporative coolers, EcoPower extraction fans, and HVLS fans worked together to introduce fresh outside air, remove excess heat, and evenly distribute airflow throughout the facility.

The monitoring indicated that indoor temperatures remained more consistent despite fluctuations in outdoor conditions, while continuous air movement reduced heat build-up and eliminated areas of stagnant air. This resulted in a more comfortable working environment with improved air circulation and more uniform conditions across the warehouse.

“The difference has been massive, especially during warmer weather. Our team wears several layers of protective clothing and welding generates significant heat, so the working environment can become very hot.

The ventilation system has really improved comfort levels. We have one Breezair unit and one fan on each side of the workshop, which gives us the flexibility to cool only the area we’re working in rather than running the entire system all the time. It also helps with extraction, creating a more comfortable and productive working environment for everyone on site.”
