Case Study

Boosting Sustainability and Safety with a Fibreglass Sectional Door Solution

Key Objectives

The Challenge

Our customer identified a lack of natural light in the workspace which was contributing to excessive energy consumption. The existing layout and lighting conditions restricted daylight from reaching key interior areas, leaving employees to work in dim environments and rely on artificial lighting throughout the day. This not only increased electricity usage and operating costs but also affected overall worker comfort and well-being, as access to natural light is closely linked to improved mood, alertness, and productivity. Recognising these challenges, the company sought solutions to enhance the flow of daylight into the workshop, creating a brighter, healthier, and more energy-efficient working environment.

The Solution

Following a comprehensive assessment of the site, we recommended removing the existing sectional door and installing a new model constructed with fibreglass panels. These panels allow up to 70% of natural light to permeate the factory, significantly improving visibility within the workspace while reducing the reliance on artificial lighting and lowering overall energy consumption.

To enhance safety, vision panels were integrated into the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th sections from the ground. These provide a 100% permeation of natural light, creating clear sightlines for both pedestrians and vehicle operators as they move through the doorway, supporting safe and efficient traffic flow in accordance with health and safety protocols.

Beyond improving natural illumination, the new sectional door delivers faster operating times and a superior security rating compared to the previous installation, offering our customer a more energy-efficient, safer, and higher-performing solution.

The Result

The newly installed sectional door is now operating reliably and efficiently, and our customer has expressed highly positive feedback regarding the improved performance of the system with lux levels rising from around 500 to 1300 – demonstrating a substantial improvement in visibility and contributing to a safer and more productive working environment.
